Four charged with murder over 2018 shooting

Birmingham police have charged four people with murder over the fatal shooting of a man in Birmingham almost three years ago.

Anthony Sargeant was shot at from a car in Rickman Drive, Lee Bank on the evening of 25 August 2018.

The 33-year-old was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound but sadly did not survive the injury and died six days later.

Police launched a murder enquiry and arrested a total of 11 people during a complex and thorough investigation into the killing.

And over the course of yesterday and today (2 June) that’s culminated with us charging four people with Mr Sargeant’s murder.

Brothers Michael and Connor Goodwin – aged 25 and 26 – Keenan Anderson (24), and 21-year-old Leon Riley have all been charged with murder.

All four are set to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court for a first appearance on 6 July.

Anthony was a rapper called Scally Jones and had featured on various music channels in the city including P110 & 5star Media, he released the mixtape ‘From the banks to the Banks’ and collaborated with Birmingham artist Remtrex in the song called ‘Certified Gs’

And other classic songs like ‘Open letter’ which gave insight into his life and mindset.

He was a father to eight children who he loved dearly and focused a lot of time with them.

Everyone knew Anthony in the community – he was a legend and nicknamed The King of Lee Bank.’

Fans of his music have been sharing his album From The Banks To The Banks on Twitter shortly after his death mourning their loss.

Anthony was a very talented footballer and founded Rickman Rovers just over a year ago. He was the player manager. He was top scorer and they managed to win the league in the first season which he was very proud of.

He was part of a wave of rappers that helped project Birmingham to the world online and his story telling songs were filled with wise words and his flows were mastered from years of rapping in the estates of Lee Bank where before it was rebuilt it was high in crime and poverty and gave birth too many rappers.

Several police shootings have occurred in the Lee Bank Area including the death of Terry Smith at the Hands Of Armed Police.

Knive murders in the West Midlands have doubled in the lasy three years, and the number of people caught with a knife has more than doubled to 1,800 last year.

Anthony’s death scarred the city and left a whole in his families life which can never be filled.
