Armed Police arrest Narcos moving fuel supplies in Gibraltar

Armed police stop

Supply and demand

Two suspected local Narcos have been arrested and a car seized along with a number of fuel containers on Saturday evening (26 June) in Gibraltar.

At 1850hrs, uniformed officers were patrolling the area of Winston Churchill Avenue when they stopped a Gibraltar plated car that was committing a traffic offence.

On speaking with the driver and passenger, officers noticed a strong smell of fuel coming from the vehicle.

Police are hesitant when opening the boot of the car and guns are drawn.

Arrested

Eight fuel containers were then found within the vehicle, three full and five empty.

Large petrol containers are often used by drug gangs for their boats.

The two men, aged 44 and 48, were then arrested on suspicion of Petrol Kept, Used or Conveyed in a Motorcar. The Gibraltar plated car was also seized.

The 48-year-old man was also further arrested for being in possession of a Class B Drug.

Statement

An RGP spokesman, said: “On this occasion our officers took this vehicle off the road, but in recent weeks, members of the public have been coming forward to report seeing fuel containers like this around Gibraltar.

“We repeat that transporting fuel containers like this is highly dangerous and a risk to the public.

We will seize any cars suspected of being involved in the illegal transportation of fuel.

“Together with the public’s support, we are helping to tackle organised crime and the drug trafficking trade, as well as keeping the streets of Gibraltar safe.”

Narco Boats

The spokesman added that fuel containers like these pictured are often taken out to sea to refuel RHIBs used by drug traffickers.

Following a call to the RGP Control Room just before 10pm, officers attempted to stop a Gibraltar-plated car that was driving erratically in the area of Winston Churchill Avenue.

After speeding off from police, the vehicle was found abandoned outside the Ocean Spa Plaza Car Park minutes later.

Inside the vehicle were 11 x 25 litre canisters full of petrol.

A 30-year-old man was found hiding in a nearby room and was arrested on suspicion of:

• Conveying fuel in a motorcar exceeding 20 litres of petrol without a licence

• Dangerous Driving

• Failing to Stop

• Criminal Damage

• Driving without a licence

The vehicle and fuel containers have been seized and the male has been bailed, pending further enquiries from uniformed police officers.

Fuelling Narcos

This is a big problem for Spanish police and one of many seizures in the country.

A number of fuel containers and a car were seized by Royal Gibraltar Police officers in two separate incidents last night.

In a separate and unrelated incident at 1854hrs in Laguna Estate, officers came across a vehicle smelling strongly of fuel, which again was suspected of being involved in the illegal transportation of fuel.  The vehicle was seized pending further enquiries.

An RGP spokesman, said: “Storing fuel containers like this is highly dangerous and a risk to the public.

“We ask that any members of the public who see a large quantity of these fuel containers to contact us anonymously.

“We will seize any cars suspected of being involved in the illegal transportation of fuel.

“Not only is this helping to tackle organised crime and the drug trafficking trade, but it’s helping to keep the streets of Gibraltar safe.”

I document Spanish news heavily and have two Narco stories on our YouTube channel this week alone.

One episode involved former commandos turned Narcos and the other is a Gang ran by former Royal Navy Submarine Officer.
