Police issue warning about footage

A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 19-year-old man was found dead at a property in Wrexham.

dozens of locals took to social media to discuss allegations the attack had been live streamed from snapchat.

The footage was circulated online widely.

North Wales police said officers were called to an incident on Eglwysfan in Rhosymedre just after 5pm on Sunday.

In a statement, the force said: “A 19-year-old man was found deceased at the property.

“Shortly afterwards, an 18 year old local man was apprehended by officers, and was arrested on suspicion of murder.”

Detective Inspector Chris Bell said: “Our enquiries are currently ongoing.

“However I would like to reassure the local community that this is an isolated incident, and there is no cause for further concern.

“I am aware that highly graphic footage has been widely circulated on social media, and I would caution members of the public from sharing this further.

“Family Liaison Officers are currently providing support to the victim’s family, and out of respect, I would like to stress the importance of nothing being placed in the public domain that could cause further distress, or indeed prejudice any potential future trial.

Police were called on Sunday, 11 July, at approximately 5:16pm to reports of an incident at a private address in Rhosymedre, Wrexham.

Police responded with one emergency ambulance, one rapid response vehicle and were supported by Wales Air Ambulance.

Since the murder investigation was launched, the family have spoken out and identified the victim.

Family statement

His family said he had the “biggest smile and sense of humour”, they were devastated by his death and he would be greatly missed by many.

In a statement, Mr Walley’s family said he was loving and kind and they were devastated by his death.

“You made us laugh, made us smile, you had so much to look forward to: college apprenticeship in September and so much more,” they said.

Police have warned of highly graphic footage being circulated on social media and urged people not to share it.

Det Ch Insp Alun Oldfield said that the incident and footage had affected many young people in the community.

“As such, school liaison officers and the neighbourhood policing team are working closely with colleagues at Wrexham council to offer the appropriate support and reassurance to the local community,” he said.

Wrexham council said school staff and social care workers were ready to provide emotional support to any children and young people affected.

On Sunday, the force issued a brief statement saying it had been called to an incident just after 17:00 BST and that there was “no on-going risk to members of the public”.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer at the scene of a murder investigation.

North Wales Police said the man was also arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, as officers tried to preserve the scene where a 19-year-old was found dead on Sunday.

A woman was also arrested on suspicion of obstructing the police and being drunk and disorderly.

It came after officers were called to an incident on Eglwysfan in Rhosymedre, just after 5pm on Sunday.

In a police statement they said: “Police Officers maintaining a scene preservation in Rhosymedre last night had cause to arrest a male and female from the local area for being drunk and disorderly.

“The female was also arrested for obstruct police and the male for assault police.”
