Large group fight
A suspected gunman has been arrested following a disorder in Alum Rock after we found him hiding in a bush.
This comes as nearly 6 guns are taken off Birmingham streets overnight.
Firearms officers, dog handler and police helicopter teamed up to find the man near Anthony Road last night (15 July) shortly after he’s suspected of brandishing a firearm during the disorder in Tarry Road.
A BMW believed to have been involved in the trouble was found crashed and a thermal imaging camera operator on board the helicopter detected a heat source in nearby bushes where a 24-year-old man was detained.
He was arrested on suspicion of possessing of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and remains in police custody.
We’re also questioning him about an incident in Naseby Road on Wednesday evening when it’s understood the occupants of a car were threatened with a gun.
Two teenagers, aged 15 and 16, suffered head injuries during the disorder; the 16-year-old was treated in hospital but later discharged.
A forensic examination is being carried out as our enquiries continue.
DS Simon Hanlon from Force CID said: “This is a complex and fast-paced job and we are working to establish the circumstances around both of the incidents.
“Due to the proximity of the two offences, we are keeping an open mind as to whether they are linked, and this will form part of the investigation.
Police have arrested five people and taken a series of potentially deadly weapons off our streets as they continue to crack down on violent crime in Birmingham.
Police conducted a firearms warrant at a house in Small Heath yesterday (16 July).
Three men, aged 39, 36 and 34, and two women aged, 42 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms. Three have been released pending further investigation and two remain in our custody.
A sub-machine gun, shotgun and two pistols were recovered, they have been taken off our streets and seized for forensic opportunities.
A sawn-off shotgun was also recovered in Ladywood last night. Enquiries are under way.
Police said “our priority is to protect members of our communities from people who carry weapons or commit crime.”
Walsall targeted shooting
Police are appealing for information after shots were fired at a property in Birchills, Walsall, last night (17 July).
It happened in Pargeter Street at around 11.50pm, fortunately no one was injured.
It’s currently thought to be a targeted attack, however detectives and local officers are working hard to understand more about what happened and why.
We understand how frightening this is for those involved and for people nearby.
Incidents like this are rare and we’re doing all we can to find those responsible as firearms have no place on our streets.
