This has been a truly devastating night for our city.

A three-year-old girl was one of five people killed in last night’s shootings in Keyham, police have confirmed.

Jake Davison, 22, killed five people in the area just after 6pm on Thursday before turning the weapon on himself.

Police officers, four air ambulances and paramedics were all called at 6.11pm after shots were reported as being fired in the Biddick Drive area of the city.

Firearms officers attended and a child, one woman and two men, as well as the offender, were all found deceased in the area.

The offender was reported deceased at 6.23pm.

An injured woman also died later at Derriford Hospital.

In an updated statement, Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Those deceased were a 51-year-old woman who was known to the offender, a three-year-old girl and a related 43-year-old man, a 59-year-old man, and a 66-year-old woman who later died in hospital.

“The 22-year-old offender who took his own life at the scene is believed to be 22-year-old Jake Davison who lives locally.”

“Two other people, a 53-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man who were known to each other were injured at the scene and continue to be treated in hospital. Neither are seriously injured.”

In what Devon and Cornwall Police described as a “truly shocking event”, Davison, using what was described as a “pump action shotgun”, shot and killed another man in nearby parkland. After shooting and fatally injuring another woman in Henderson Place, Davison turned the weapon on himself, the force said

At a press conference in Plymouth on Friday, Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer said armed officers attended the scene but Davison had shot himself before they were able to engage him.

He added Davison also shot two other local residents in Biddick Drive who are now being treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

An independent review is taking place after the perpetrator of a mass shooting in Plymouth was found to have legally held a firearms licence, Devon and Cornwall Police has confirmed.

The victims

It comes after a gunman killed five people including a “very young girl” in a mass shooting on Thursday before turning the weapon on himself.

Maxine Davison

Jake Davison, 22, shot and killed a woman, now named as his mother Maxine Davison, at a property in Biddick Drive, Plymouth, before going outside and “immediately” shooting dead a three-year-old girl and her father.

Maxine Davison, also known as Maxine Chapman, aged 50, who was the mother of the offender.

“Further victims were Sophie Martyn, aged three, and her father Lee Martyn, aged 43.

“Stephen Washington, aged 59, was also deceased. The final deceased person was Kate Shepherd, aged 66, who was injured at the scene and died later at Derriford Hospital.

“As previously said by Devon & Cornwall Police, the firearm believed to have been used during the incident was legally held by the offender.

“The circumstances surrounding that have now been subject to a mandatory referral to the IOPC by Devon & Cornwall Police.

Plymouth murders

Jake Davison, a 22-year-old virgin was identified Friday as the gun-obsessed man behind Thursday’s murders in Plymouth that a local MP decried as “unspeakably awful.”

He is believed to have first shot dead his mother at their family home, before running out and killing a 3-year-old girl, her male relative and two others before turning the gun on himself, according to officials.

Two others were also injured but are expected to survive.

Police said they were examining his hard drives and online activity, which included a YouTube channel in which he regularly whined about being a “fat as f–k” virgin who had never kissed a girl, according to numerous UK reports.

Saying he was “getting uglier” and “defeated by life,” he related to incels, the “involuntary celibates” behind a series of devastating mass murders in the US and Canada.

His social media — since taken down — showed he was obsessed with American gun culture, and even claimed to have been born in Phoenix, Arizona, according to the Sun and Agence France-Presse.

That has yet to be verified, however, and in his YouTube videos he speaks with a strong English west-country accent.

Helicopter and police at scene

This is the worst mass shooting in the UK since 2010, when taxi driver Derrick Bird shot dead 12 people and injured 11 others before committing suicide in Copeland, Cumbria.

Devon and Cornwall Police Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer said police had found no motive for this week’s atrocity, but they were not considering terrorism or any far-right associations.

“We believe we have an incident that is domestically related, that has spilled into the street and seen several people within Plymouth losing their lives in an extraordinarily tragic circumstance,” Sawyer told reporters Friday.

What happened?

Davison was reportedly dressed all in black and used a pump-action shotgun in the rampage at a house around 6 p.m. Thursday.

He first gunned down a 51-year-old woman who “was known” to him, identified by The Sun as his mother, Maxine, who the outlet said was desperately trying to get him mental health treatment.

He then ran outside and immediately shot dead the 3-year-old girl along with her 43-year-old male relative, identified in some reports as her father. It is unclear if he knew the dad and daughter.

Davison also shot at two other passers-by, who were badly injured, before he entered a park and shot dead a 59-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman, who died later in hospital, police said.

He then turned the gun on himself before firearms officers could tackle him.

The deadly shooting spree was over in less than six minutes but was spread over 13 different crime scenes.

Gun laws

Mass shootings are rare in the UK, where gun ownership is relatively low after some of the Western world’s toughest gun controls were implemented following the 1996 massacre of 16 pupils and a teacher were killed in Dunblane, Scotland.

However, ownership of sporting rifles and shotguns is allowed, subject to strict licensing rules, and police confirmed that Davison had such a license. They would not confirm if it was for the weapon used Thursday.

An “independent review” would look into how he obtained it, and whether the gunman had any mental health issues, the chief constable said.

Plymouth Sutton and Devonport MP Luke Pollard called it “unspeakably awful” and said he was “utterly devastated” to learn one of those killed was a child.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that his “thoughts are with the friends and family of those who lost their lives and with all those affected by the tragic incident in Plymouth last night.”

Incels first became prominent in 2014 after Elliott Rodger, 22, killed himself after gunning down six people, including two women, outside a sorority house near Santa Barbara, California.

Rodger left behind a manifesto that has been a rallying point for online “incels” who justify violence against women as revenge for being rejected as sexual partners.

Incel reddit

In a Reddit post to a incel chatroom three months ago he reported his obsession with mass shootings.

“Mass shootings did not exist 70-80 years ago despite America being awash with guns in the 50s 40s 30s mass shootings did not happen, its obviously some kind of other social problem not linked to guns because America has always had guns yet its not until about the -8090s. mass shootings really became a thing (although its super exploded the last decade) and obviously there is something else at work because in 1950s America you could buy a BAR machine gun despite this no mass shootings

Mass shootings are a new phenomena that cannot be directly blamed on guns the first mass shooting in the USA was the Texas clock tower shooting which the guy used a bolt action hunting rifle a weapon legal in almost all countries that allow gun ownership yet the guy managed to kill 18 people.

In the UK hungerford shooting where the guy owned a chinese type 56 AK47 semi-auto rifle which is the more dangerous weapon the villainous AK47 or the bolt action hunting rifle which is still legal in most countries.

It is a fact that more people were killed with the bolt action then the AK also what about the 70+ people killed in nice france with a truck or the 80+ people killed in the happy land fire in an mass killer arson attack you can’t blame this on guns or the type of guns used.

“its the same with Europe and the UK people like to say strict gun laws are why it doesn’t happen but people forget the UK never had a gun culture even when gun laws were akin to Texas in the early 1900s and 1800s gun crime was extremely rare despite in 1900, you could go buy a belt fed maxim gun if you had the money in the UK its not strict laws the UK never had gun crime ot begin with even when laws were like Texas.

plus there are lot more guns in Europe and the UK then people think”
