Jason Morrison stabbed to death in Digbeth

Tributes have been paid to a man fatally stabbed in Birmingham city centre as he was today named as Jason Bentley-Morrison.

His grieving family have described Jason as having a ‘heart as big as an ocean’ who would go out of his way to help others.

The 25-year-old was seriously injured following a fight in Oxford Street at around 2.45am yesterday (22 August).

He was taken to hospital but sadly died later the same morning. Our thoughts are with all his loved ones at this devastating time.

In a tribute his family said: “To know Jason was to love him.

“Jason’s positive and passionate outlook on life was inspiring and infectious to everyone he encountered. His warmth and compassion extended far beyond the ties of family and if you were to ask anyone ‘who’s Jason?’ they would share the funniest and heart-warming stories of his reach and impact on their lives.

“He was the stranger in the street who offered to help you carry your shopping home. He was the friend that rescheduled his work day to drive you to the doctor and make sure everything was ok. He was the young entrepreneur who taught financial literacy and investing in property to those struggling to see a path forward and so much more.

“Jason had a heart as big as the ocean and always put others before himself. Never has a man with so little time on this earth affected so many hearts and minds as profoundly as him.

“Irreplaceable and forever missed. Our Jason, always.”

A post mortem examination has revealed he died as a result of a stab wound to his abdomen.

We’re following a number of lines of enquiry as we seek to identify and track down his killer. An address on Esher Road, Kingstanding has been visited as part of our enquiries.

We remain keen to speak to those who were in the area and were filming what happened on their mobile phone. Similarly we’re asking taxi drivers, or other motorists, who were in the location to check dash-cam footage to see if they have recorded the disorder or the offender making off.

The popular entrepreneur taught financial literacy and investing in property to those struggling to see a path forward.

He was also part of workshops billed for “young black landlords” where he shared his property knowledge to young people all over the UK.

Inspirational Jason spoke at an event about his success in property investment in 2019 and how work had since become an “option.” He said he started an apprenticeship at 18 and revealed he was dealing with nine properties by the age of 23.

“I was looking for a way out so got an apprenticeship,” he said. “I saved up for my first deposit and bought a residential mortgage and converted to a buy-to-let mortgage.

“Since then rent-to-rent has been a big part of why I’ve scaled so quickly. You joint venture with people. You acquire properties and build up. I’ve been in HMOs, service combinations, combinations of the two, single lets for my own portfolio.”

Asked how it had changed his life, he said: “It’s good. It makes work an option. It’s not a thing that you have to go there. If it gets too stressful I can just go.

“It’s not when you realise, it’s if you realise with this whole property stuff and when to invest.

“So you could have worked in a job until you’re 50, but if you’ve saved up money you’ve got deposits…You have to make that realisation sooner or later.”

He said things that lose you money, like holidays and cars, are “nice liabilities.”

“You can buy your liabilities, but first buy your assets,” he said. “We’re dealing with about nine properties at the moment.

“It’s rent to rent. You don’t own them – you rent them off landlords. There’s three that I’ve acquired myself.”https://get-latest.convrse.media/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.birminghammail.co.uk%2Fnews%2Fmidlands-news%2Fdigbeth-stab-victim-successful-entrepreneur-21387736&cre=center&cip=22&view=web

Police have not yet arrested anyone over Jason’s death but say they are “following a number of lines of enquiry” as they try to trace his killer.

An address on Esher Road, Kingstanding, has been visited as part of West Midlands Police’s enquiries.
