Tom Cruise : Car stolen while filming MI7 in Birmingham

Actor Tom Cruise was in for a shock during the filming of his successful action franchise Mission: Impossible 7 when he was informed that his car was stolen.

The Hollywood superstar’s BMW was stolen along with luggage worth several thousands of pounds present inside it.

The luxury car, a BMW X7, was reportedly stolen from outside Birmingham’s Grand Hotel, while the actor was shooting for the film.

Though the car has since been recovered in Smethwick, the incident left the actor angered when he heard about it.

The theft came to light when the actor’s bodyguard noticed that the vehicle had disappeared from its parking space on Wednesday.

The contents of the car was also taken.

The 59-year-old was described to be “hopping mad” after he was informed about the crime.

The criminals made away with the car using a scanner to clone the signal from the luxury car’s keyless ignition fob.

The vehicle was parked outside a Birmingham hotel at the time of theft.

Mr Cruise had been driven around in the car while he was in Birmingham due to which some of his luggage and belongings were inside the vehicle at the time of theft.

The police were able to recover the vehicle because it was equipped with an electronic tracking device.

A significant security risk of modern vehicles is their vulnerability to relay attacks.

Challenge-response methods, such as those employed in Passive Keyless Entry (PKE) used by most commercial vehicles, are inherently exposed to this class of attacks, where communication between a vehicle and it’s key can be transmitted by an attacker over long range – thereby bypassing any encryption and unlocking the vehicle without requiring direct access to the key.

Mr Cruise’s belongings that were present inside were stolen and have not been recovered yet.

“It’s a huge embarrassment for the security team and the guy who had been driving it was hopping mad — but not as mad as Tom,” the source said.

Tom went for a Chicken Tikka Masala supper at city restaurant “Asha’s” Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise then got straight to work on filming in Birmingham’s Grand Central.

The A-lister has been spotted in the centre this morning where it is believed he is filming part of the next Mission Impossible movie within the empty John Lewis store and parts of Grand Central.

Footage emerged over the weekend of a mind-blowing sequence filmed in Derbyshire with a train running off a cliff at a Peak District quarry.

In that footage, the steam-locomotive could be seen ploughing over the cliff and falling to the quarry floor as a helicopter followed just overhead.

The internet was then sent into a frenzy yesterday when pictures emerged of Cruise outside city restaurant Asha’s.

Restaurant bosses claimed the star enjoyed his chicken tikka masala so much, he ordered a second straight away.

The restaurant was only told hours before that Tom – who has been spotted several times in the Grand Central shopping centre recently – was going to be coming in.

When the star from Syracuse in New York arrived at 6pm along with five others and a security detail, Tom insisted he should not be treated differently to anybody else.

The group was even happy to sit on a table in the middle of the restaurant.

Their meal was so low key that not everybody inside Asha’s recognised him or was aware they were dining so close to Hollywood royalty.

Pictures from Grand Central today give and indication of what is being filmed.

Signs have been erected making the station look like an airport.
