Peterborough police officer peppered sprayed

Members of public reported dramatic scenes on Lincoln Road on Thursday evening when a police officer was assaulted by a man, after police officers stopped a car near the junction with Searjeant Street. 

Cambridgeshire Constabulary confirmed the officer received minor injuries and that two men were arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs. 

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said:  “At about 5.40pm yesterday (September 2) a police officer was assaulted in Lincoln Road near the junction with Northfield Road in Peterborough. 

“He received minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment. 

“A 25-year-old man, of no known address, was arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker and possession of a class B or C drug. 

“A 32-year-old man from Peterborough was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of a class A drug and possession of a class A drug. 

“They remain in custody and an investigation is ongoing.”

The officer was sprayed in the face at the scene and back up assisted with the arrest video footage shows.
