12 year old dies after Tamworth Snowdome accident

Tragedy has struck at a SnowDome in Tamworth, what should be a fun family day out has turned into a nightmare.

The company directors have said they and staff are ‘deeply shocked’ following the tragic death of a schoolboy – and confirmed the venue will remain closed.

An investigation is being carried out after the 12 year old boy sadly died in an incident at the indoor ski slope in Tamworth on Friday, September 24.

The site is therefore unable to reopen until work has been completed but bosses “hope to be able to update in the very near future”.

A statement reads: “The SnowDome is to remain temporarily closed following the tragic death of a child on Friday evening.

“Directors and staff are deeply shocked by what happened, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this terrible time.

“An investigation is currently being carried out by the authorities, and we are giving it our full co-operation.

“We are unable to reopen until their work has been completed, but hope to be able to update you on the position in the very near future.

“If you have a booking affected by the closure, we will be in touch with you shortly.”

Staffordshire Police sadly confirmed on Friday night: “We were called at 6.40pm to reports a child had been seriously injured during an activity in the SnowDome in Tamworth. 

“Officers attended the location along with ambulance crews who treated a boy at the scene.

“Sadly, the boy, aged 12, died of his injuries shortly afterwards.

“His parents are being supported by officers. Our thoughts are with them.

“A man is also being treated for injuries. We would kindly urge people not to speculate about the incident or share any images/footage there may be.

“The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have been informed of the incident.

“Anyone who has information about the incident can contact us on 101 or via social media ref 665 of 24 September.”

Alan White, leader of Staffordshire County Council, said: “I was shocked to hear the tragic news of the incident involving a child at Tamworth SnowDome.

“We must wait for the circumstances to be established but I offer my deepest sympathies at this terrible time to the family and friends of the deceased and to everyone affected by this tragedy.”
