A community was left mourning the death of 19-year-old boy after another teenager fell victim to a knife attack on Essex’s streets.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 8pm on Friday (January 31) 2020 following reports that two men had been attacked outside the Rose and Crown pub.
Sadly, Liam Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second victim, also 19, was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
He has since been discharged from hospital.
Just hours after the fatal stabbing, four men were arrested on suspicion of murder and taken into police custody for questioning.
The Green remained shut to traffic throughout the night while forensic officers carried out investigations at the scene.
A large section of the road surrounding the pub was cordoned off.
It was also revealed that extra patrols were authorised across Chelmsford to crack down on people carrying dangerous objects and weapons.
Powers under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 were authorised for the Melbourne Estate area between 6pm on Saturday and 6pm on Sunday.
Ryan Filby was wanted early on in the investigation and went on the run.
He and several others were arrested and charged with Liams murder.
Sentencing

Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Jennings, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said: “This was a senseless and vicious attack that took the life of a young man and has devastated his family.
“His friend and those who witnessed the attack have also suffered the effects from being involved in a situation that none of us would ever wish to be in.
“Liam’s murder has caused reverberations throughout the community and among those who knew him, and I understand people will be angry, upset and grieving.
“I’d ask anyone considering taking matters into their own hands not to do so.
“There is never any excuse to carry knives or weapons, and violence will not solve anything.
It will only ever have severe consequences for everyone involved and can lead to even more lives being ruined.”
They were sentenced today, Tuesday 31 August, to life imprisonment.
Filby, 22, of Evelyn Place, Chelmsford, and Daden, 20, of Bramble Road, Witham, must each serve a minimum of 21 years years.
And Colgate, 19, of Aldridge Close, Chelmsford, must serve a minimum of 16-and-a-half years.
Chelmsford Crown Court had previously heard the attack on Liam and his friend was in retaliation to an incident less than two hours previously in which Filby had been beaten by two people with a pole outside his home.
Although the defendants and the victims were known to each other, neither Liam nor his friend were involved in the assault on Filby.
Speaking after the verdicts were announced, Liam’s nan, Julie Taylor said: “It’s worse than a horror film and no mother, grandmother, brother, sister or family member should ever have to deal with this.
“We are haunted by the trauma and violence of Liam’s death and haunted by the birthdays and Christmases we will never share.
“In life we know we’ll lose loved ones from old age or illness but, it’s not the normal course of life for a parent, grandparent or sibling to see a child and young person die at the hand of such violence.
“There are no circumstances where any individual needs to walk the streets with weapons and it will never be justified. It will always end in tragedy.
“We all loved Liam in life and in death we love him still. He will never be forgotten. We love you our beautiful angel.”
Julie, 55 from Chelmsford, Essex, now wants a national day of remembrance for the victims of youth violence and is backing a petition launched by 46-year-old Luisa Di Marco.
Luisa, who is the founder of Keep it 100, a youth club based in Essex, wants sunset, 6:51pm, on September 25 to be marked as a national, annual day in memory of those lost to youth violence.
Bradford murder 10.10.21
Police have released a photograph of Kian Tordoff who died after being stabbed in Bradford city centre in the early hours of Sunday.
Kian, who was 19 and from Bierley, Bradford, died a short time after police were called to John Street at about 5.45am on Sunday.
A second man, also 19, was seriously injured. He remains in hospital, where his condition is now said to be stable.
Three males, aged 16, 21 and 26 remain in custody as the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team continue to investigate what happened.
Kian was described as a “golden-hearted” young man by his best friend Ellis Rubery.
“he had a smile that could light up the whole estate” and was “the most golden-hearted beautiful soul there ever was to walk on this earth.”
Det Ch Insp Marc Bowes, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “One young man has unfortunately lost his life and another is continuing to fight for his.
“This is an absolutely devastating incident and a significant police operation and investigation is underway to identify and arrest those responsible.
“Our understanding from initial calls to the police is that there was a large group fighting and a number of these people will be significant witnesses and we would urge them to make themselves known.
“I ask that anyone with information, however insignificant it may seem in itself, to please make contact as soon as possible as it could be significant to our enquiries.”
