Camera phone footage show the moment a car screeches to a halt and a gunman jumps out opening fire in broad daylight on a Bedford high street.

Police officers have arrested two individuals after reports of a group ‘armed with weapons’ fighting in the street. A large portion of Wendover Drive in Bedford was cordoned off this evening following an incident shortly after 1.40pm today (August 11). Officers had warned families to avoid the area while their investigation was underway. The cordon included a convenience store, hair salon, tanning studio, cafe, and pizzeria. It is unclear why the area was cordoned by police officers.

A Bedfordshire Police spokesman said: “We are aware that people are concerned following a violent disorder in Bedford today.  “Two people have been arrested and we are continuing to appeal for information. PC Ashleigh Napier added: “We have arrested two men in connection with the disorder, however they are currently receiving hospital treatment for their injuries, which are not believed to be serious.
