Acid attack suspect arrested after police chase

The Civil Guard has detained a man in Cáceres who was subject to a judicial order of search, arrest and personification, for his alleged involvement with the events that occurred last January in the town of Cártama (Málaga), in which two girls were seriously injured after being doused with acid. The detainee was intercepted during the night of last Thursday at a Civil Guard checkpoint where, after identifying himself with a false Belgian driving license, he tried to flee with his vehicle at high speed. This man has been arrested as the alleged perpetrator of two crimes against road safety, for reckless driving and driving without a valid license, in addition to the crimes of attacking an agent of the authority, falsification of a public document, usurpation of civil status, gross disobedience and refusal to submit to drug and alcohol tests.

During approximately one hour of monitoring on different roads, the vehicle could be intercepted on the A-66 highway, at the height of the town of Aljucén (Badajoz), where the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety. The agents verified that both the driver’s license that the detainee had presented moments before, as well as a Belgian national identity card that he also carried with him, were false. When conducting a search of his vehicle, the agents found, hidden in an interior cabin, a passport that did correspond to the true identity of the detainee. Continuing with the investigation, it was possible to confirm that the detainee lacked a valid driving license and that he was under a search, arrest and indictment warrant, issued by a Malaga Court, for his alleged involvement, as a cover-up, in the events occurred, last January, in the town of Cártama (Málaga), in which two women were seriously injured after being sprayed with acid. After completing the investigation of the corresponding proceedings, the detainee, a 46-year-old man from Estepona (Málaga), was placed at the disposal of the Court of First Instance and Instruction, acting as the Cáceres Guard, who has ordered his immediate admission in prison.
