Armed police arrest4 & seize “Rambo knife” in Digbeth

Police have released video showing us arresting a man armed with a large zombie knife – as we continue our efforts to take weapons off the streets and keep people safe. They were patrolling in central Birmingham at around 3am on Monday (13 Dec) following reports a group of men were carrying weapons. Four men matching the descriptions were spotted in Albert Street and during a search we found the serrated knife tucked inside one of their waistbands. A 21-year-old was arrested on suspicion of knife possession and wounding. Three others – two aged 20 and a 19-year-old – were also arrested on suspicion of wounding. It’s suspected they may have been involved in a fight in Fazeley Street earlier in the morning during which a man suffered a stab wound to his side. We seized the weapon and the four have been bailed to allow us more time to investigate. The 46-year-old victim remains in hospital but his condition is not believed to be life threatening or life changing.

Officers are out and about across the West Midlands at all hours to make our streets safer and to arrest offenders. We run a Life or Knife campaign that highlights the devastating consequences of knife possession and how everyone can play a part in keeping young people safe. This follows a shooting in Small Heath and four arrests in Bearwood for a shooting last month in Hockley of a 13 year old.

UPDATE:

Zidann Edwards, aged 19, of Ford Street, Birmingham, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday (Wednesday) where he was remanded in custody to face trial at a later date. This represents a significant step forward for the investigation but we know that others were involved, and we remain committed to ensuring that they too face justice. Officers are continuing to carry out regular patrols in and around the area following the shooting. And we’re grateful for the support of the community in assisting our investigations so far but we still need your help.

We’ve charged a man with attempted murder after a 13-year-old boy was injured during a shooting in Hockley Circus, Birmingham on 18 November. Zidann Edwards of Ford Street, Birmingham was also charged with possession of a prohibited weapon. The 19-year-old will appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court today (15 December). Two 17-year-old boys and a 20-year-old man who were previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder remain on police bail as our enquiries continue.
