Liverpool shooting CCTV : arrest after man shot in leg

A man can be heard screaming in pain before he runs for his life after being shot in the leg on a busy Liverpool road. Shocking CCTV captures the moment a 33-year-old man was shot at the junction of Prescot Road and Day Street in Old Swan at around 3.08am on Saturday, December 11. 

Police officers were called to the scene following reports of three loud bangs being heard. A man was found with a gunshot wound to his leg. Dramatic footage shows a passenger jumping onto the back of an electric bike which then speeds away after the shots are fired.

Loud bangs can be heard ringing out in the street, with the victim screaming in pain as he hops along the pavement trying to escape. The victim can be seen passing a parade of shops on Prescot Road, heading in the direction of Green Lane. As the victim’s cries are heard on the CCTV, the victim can be seen running past Jacqui Jangles Hair Salon and the One Stop convenience store.

The electric bike can then be seen speeding off in the direction of Green Lane, passing the victim as he runs for his life. The victim made it to the end of the row of shops before stopping close to Amman Jewellers at the corner of Childers Street, until paramedics could arrive. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He was later discharged. The time stamp on the video footage shows 4:08am because the clock on the CCTV had not been adjusted for daylight saving time. Merseyside Police confirmed the incident took place at 3.08am.

Earlier this week, police confirmed that they had arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder, as well as suspected firearms and drugs offences following a warrant in Knotty Ash on Monday, December 20. The 39-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possession with intent to supply Class B drugs (cannabis). He was taken into custody for questioning. Police said the shooting is believed to have been targeted.Detectives investigating the shooting believe two suspects rode up to the victim on an electric bike, before the rear seat passenger shot the 33-year-old victim.
