Biker who stashed kilos caught by border force

A motorcyclist who smuggled heroin into the UK in a void hidden in a top box on his bike has been jailed for more than five years after a National Crime Agency investigation.

Ezekiel Rose, 40, from Pimlico, London, was stopped at the Channel Tunnel control zone in France on his return to the UK on 26 October 2021.

When his motorbike was searched by Border Force officers, a hide was found in the top box on the back of his bike.

Two brown taped packages were hidden inside with “TT” stamped on their surface.

NCA investigators tested the packages and found them to contain heroin with an estimated street value of £100,000.

When questioned, Rose claimed he had been to northern Spain to take photographs and view a property.

However, investigators established he had not been out of the UK for long enough to have been able to travel to Spain.

Rose claimed in interview that he believed the drugs were “just herbal”. He pleaded guilty to one count of importation of a controlled drug at Canterbury Crown Court on 28 October but claimed he believed the drug was cannabis.

This was rejected by the Judge and he was sentenced to five years and two months in prison today.

Mark Howes, Branch Commander at the NCA, said: “This was a crude attempt to bring class A drugs into the UK.

“Rose had created a backstory to try and fool investigators, packing photography and camping equipment above the hide which we believe was created specifically for smuggling.

“Heroin brings exploitation and violence to the streets and we work closely with partners to target smugglers at the border.”
