Coventry child murder, woman arrested in Earlsdon

Police have arrested a woman on suspicion of murder after a five-year-old boy has died in Coventry today (25 January).

Police discovered the child with serious injuries at an address in Poplar Road, Earlsdon, at just after 5.55pm.

Despite the best efforts of emergency services he was tragically confirmed dead at the scene.

A 49-year-old woman – who is understood to be known to the boy – has been arrested and taken into custody for questioning.

Police are in the early stages of our enquiries and a cordon is currently in place for a full investigation to be carried out.

This is round the corner from the five day siege in Earlsdon road north last week involving a child also but isnt believed to be connected

Superintendent Ronan Tyrer, from Coventry Police, said: “This is an absolute tragedy and our thoughts are with all those impacted by this terrible passing.

“The loss of any life – especially one so young – is always extremely painful and we know this will cause a lot of shock and concern.

“A suspect has been arrested and it’s important we allow time for detectives to fully investigate the circumstances around the death.

“We’ll continue to having a policing presence in the area and do our best to support everyone during this difficult time.”

The local Co-operative shop is shut and it is believed the woman went in there before she was arrested.
