A mum of two stabbed to death at home took her kids to school that day but never arrived to pick them up, local residents say. The body of the 40-year-old woman was found by the Met Police on March 24 inside a property in Bethnal Green.

Officers were called just after 4.05pm to her home after concerns for the woman’s welfare. Police confirmed that the woman – believed to be a mum of children who attended nearby Bangabandhu Primary School – was stabbed to death at the scene. Her relatives have been informed and they are being supported by officers.

The woman was found dead at her home last night (March 24) by Met Police officers inside a property in Bethnal Green. They were called just after 4.05pm after concerns for the woman’s welfare. Police confirmed that the woman – believed to be a mum of children who attended nearby Bangabandhu Primary School – died at the scene and her relatives have been informed. They are being supported by officers.

The death is being treated as suspicious and detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have been informed. No arrests have so far been made and a large crime scene remains in place today (March 25) all around Sceptre Road. A number of forensic officers have arrived and have begun their investigations work.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a mother-of-two was stabbed to death in east London while her children were at school.

She has been named as Yasmin Begum, 40, from Globe Road in Bethnal Green.

A post-mortem examination found the cause of death was multiple sharp force injuries.

A 40-year-old man was detained in Stratford, east London, on Sunday and remains in police custody, Met Police said.

School staff raised the alarm on Friday when Ms Begum did not arrive to collect her children after class, the force added.

Officers went to her home where she was found with stab injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.

Det Ch Insp Laurence Smith said his thoughts were “with Yasmin’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time”. 

He added: “I want to reassure them that we are working around the clock to get them the answers they deserve.”

The force appealed for anyone with information to contact officers.
