Alum rock mob attack two in car during ambush

Police have stepped up patrols after mobs unleashed 48 hours of terror on the streets of Alum Rock. Gangs were reported to have rammed cars, chased victims and wrecked businesses.

The violence culminated in a 15-strong mob using a flatbed lorry to box in a car on Alum Rock Road. Thugs then dragging two men out of their car and beat them with baseball attacks in the early hours of Monday, June 27. 

Videos circulated on social media and West Midlands Police sought to reassure residents on Monday that officers were investigating each incident and stepping up patrols in the area.

The spate of attacks began after thugs travelling in two cars along Washwood Heath Road, in Saltley, stopped and attacked another driver with weapons at around 5pm on Saturday, June 25. 

A victim, aged 31, was rammed by the gang before he fled on foot into a petrol station shop. His attackers followed him inside and damaged the front door before fleeing.

The group then broke into a business on Alum Rock Road and began wrecking it and throwing items from the roof. Armed officers were sent to the scene and discovered a getaway car was stolen and on cloned number plates. A machete was also recovered.

In a separate incident at around 12.05am on Monday, June 27, two men were rammed in their car by a flatbed lorry, dragged out, and beaten with baseball bats by a mob. The The two victims, aged 23 and 25, were taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said they were not linking Saturday’s and Monday’s attacks. They added: “While we’re treating these as separate events, we understand these recent events are worrying for people in the area. 

“We want to reassure residents that we are looking into every investigative opportunity available and our neighbourhood officers are carrying out reassurance patrols in the area. We have spoken to people who saw the crime happen and have started examining CCTV.”
