Murder charge after body of Madison Wright found in park

Essex Police have found a body, believed to be that of missing Madison Wright (30) they have not yet formally identified her

Her body is reported to have been found in Wat Tyler Country Park on Saturday, July 30. police had also searched a nearby recycling centre which remains closed while officers continue with inquiries.

Ms Wright, of Basildon in Essex, was last seen alive at 8.30am on Friday, July 22.

Ms Wright was wearing a pink top, black trousers and flip flops when she was last seen alive on Friday.

She has a dream catcher tattoo on her left arm and a tattoo of a rose on her right hand.

Her car, a black Vauxhall Astra with the registration EU13 JVW, was found four days after her disappearance on July 26 in Brackendale Avenue in Basildon. 

Detective Superintendent Rob Kirby, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said on Friday (July 29) : “Madison is a young mum, with a family who love her and are desperately worried about her.

“She’s been missing for a week today and is still missing, and we desperately need to find her. We have a team of dedicated, specialist officers and staff working to find her and we urgently need anyone with information about her disappearance to contact us.

Police officers investigating the disappearance of a young Essex mum have been spotted at an address in Pitsea with the front door caved in. At least five police cars were spotted this afternoon at the address in Lincoln Road.There has been a huge police presence in Wat Tyler Country Park in Pitsea yesterday and today, with the park completely closed and forensic teams working at the scene for most of the day.

David Dadds, councillor for Basildon Borough Council, said: ‘I am saddened and devastated to hear of the news about Madison. I have known Madison since she was a child. 

‘She was a caring, kind and gentle person and a loving mother. Madison leaves a void that cannot ever be filled. My thoughts & prayers are with her family and friends.’ 

A man called Gary Bennett was arrested and has been charged and appeared today at Southend Magistrates Court over the suspected murder of his partner Madison Wright, 30 – a mother-of-one who went missing for ten days. 

Bennett, from Pitsea, was charged with her murder on Sunday, July 31.

Bennett wore a grey prison-issue tracksuit, and was not asked to enter a plea during the hearing which lasted less than two minutes.

He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.

Friends and neighbours paid tribute to mother-of-one Madison Wright today as Bennett appeared in court charged with her murder.

John Knight, 62, described the 30-year-old as ‘a kind and quiet soul’ who would be ‘deeply missed’ by her family.

Mr Knight, who lived in the same block in Basildon, Essex, as Madison for over five years, ‘Madison was a lovely girl.
