Walton flyover siege after woman attacked in home by man with machete

Armed police officers rushed to the scene of a stabbing after a man with a “large machete in his trousers” was seen walking towards Breeze Hill flyover.

Merseyside Police confirmed that officers were called to the flyover after a woman was stabbed inside a house on Bedford Road in Walton at around 12.20pm today (Monday, January 16). A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of a bladed article after he reportedly fled the scene for the flyover.

 

The victim has been rushed to hospital, with one eye witness saying “He ran out the house with two pit bulls on a lead and a large machete in his trousers and ran up the flyover. Police were called by members of the public.”

The large response from emergency services is said to have included around 10 police cars and two ambulances, with Bedford Road remaining cordoned off after the flyover and Rice Lane was reopened. A Merseyside Police spokesperson said  “We have arrested a 35-year-old man from Walton on suspicion of assault and possession of a bladed article following an incident on Bedford Road earlier today (Monday 16 January).

“At around 12.20pm, we received a report that a woman had sustained stab wounds inside a property. The suspect has then fled the scene and was later arrested on the flyover on Breeze Hill. The victim has been take
