3 shot attending wake in Handsworth drive by shooting

Police have reported a triple shooting occurred in Handsworth last night while people were attending a wake, police are using Section 60 Powers in parts of Birmingham this evening.

These powers will be used in Handsworth Wood, Perry Barr, Lozells, Handsworth, Winson Green, Nechells, Aston, Winson Green and parts of the Jewellery Quarter.

The order, which started at 4pm today, gives us the power to stop and search people we suspect may be involved in violence involving weapons, without the need to have reasonable grounds.

Police can also disperse anyone from the area we believe may cause harm or distress to others.

Extra officers out on patrol as we work hard to prevent any further harm and using these powers helps our officers do that.

Investigations are continuing today after three men were injured when shots were fired during a large gathering in Hamstead Road, Birmingham, just after 6pm last night (Friday).
