Leicestershire Police has named the man who died in police custody as Sebastian Zarnoch.
Zarnoch was being questioned by detectives following the disappearance of Gabriela Kosilko.
While being held in police custody, the 30-year-old was found unresponsive in his cell on Wednesday (6 September) morning. Despite the efforts of the custody staff he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Given the man died in police custody, in line with procedure, a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) who have begun an independent investigation.
The force will fully co-operate with this investigation.
Detectives investigating Gabriela’s murder are continuing to carry out enquiries in relation to her death.
Officers have established the pair were known to each other.
Once all enquiries have been completed, a file will be submitted to HM Coroner and will form part of the inquest process. Further information relating to this will be a matter for the coroner’s office.
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Sinski from East Midlands Special Operations Unit Murder Investigation Team, said: “We continue to investigate the full circumstances surround Gabriela’s death so please get in touch if you have any information that could assist.
“We are not looking for anyone else in connection with her death and as such the investigation file will be submitted to the coroner to be heard as part of the inquest.

Eyebrow technician Gabriela Kosilko was snatched a day after her former partner Sebastian Zarnoch flew to the UK from his native Poland.
Zarnoch, 30, then is believed to have killed himself in a police cell after initially being arrested over Ms Kosilko’s kidnap – before her body was found.
Ms Kosilko, who should have been celebrating her 27th birthday in six days, was reported missing on September 1 after failing to come home from work the previous evening.
She was last seen in a Tesco Express in Fosse Road North, Leicester, at 11.30pm on August 31 and her red Audi A1 was discovered four miles away the following morning.
Yesterday officers revealed they had found remains and believed them to be Ms Kosilko’s, though her mother is said to be flying to the UK from Poland on Tuesday to formally identify her.
