Man sectioned after Mother of 6 stabbed to death in Chadderton

Residents of a quiet new build estate have been left shell-shocked after a horrifying crime unfolded on their doorstep. One neighbour described hearing ‘screams’ before emergency services flooded the street but sadly could not save the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the incident, a row of houses were taped off by police, while evidence tents were set up in opposite driveways.

The grieving family of a mum-of-six who was killed in Oldham this week have paid tribute to their ‘kind-hearted’ and ‘outgoing’ daughter. Tamby Dowling, 36, died after being stabbed following an attack at 7pm on Monday, November 8. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Tamby was pronounced dead at the scene on Water Mill Avenue, Chadderton.In the aftermath of the tragic killing, a 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.He has since been assessed by specialist medical staff and sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

Now, Tamby’s parents, Mary Dowling and Keith Hawley, stepfather Graham Marsh, and stepmother Diane Pleavin, have paid tribute to their daughter — describing her as a ‘very good mother, brilliant daughter, and friend to everyone who knew her’.

“She was outgoing, kind-hearted, generous, and had time for everyone,” they said in a joint statement. “Her door was always open, her home was filled with visitors, and her kettle was always just boiled.” “She leaves behind six devastated children who she adored. She leaves behind her devastated brothers, sisters, mother, father, stepdad, and stepmum. She had a large family, who are all heartbroken.

“Tamby will leave a huge hole and massive impact on all the family. She touched the lives of countless people — the hole she has left will never be filled and our hearts are broken.”

Tamby’s family also asked for privacy during the difficult time.

A 16-year-old girl was also injured during the incident and taken to hospital with superficial injuries.

Tributes have also poured in from other loved ones on social media, with an online fundraiser for the family already earning thousands in donations. 

Raising money to pay for funeral costs and for the welfare of her children, £7,000 has been given to the fundraiser in just 16 hours.

Police say enquiries remain ongoing in connection to the killing and anyone with information is asked to contact the force as soon as possible.

Online, friends and family also paid tribute to Tamby.

One said: “My heart is absolutely broken, you didn’t deserve what happened to you. We are all so devastated, if only we had all known, still so shocked.

“RIP to my beautiful auntie Tamby, you will be missed by absolutely everyone.”

Another added: “A soul to beautiful for this cruel cruel world rest in paradise Tamby your smile will never be forgotten. RIP.”

Others praised her as a ‘beautiful’ woman.

“So so shocked to hear your gone.. what a beautiful woman you was! Will remember our memories. RIP Tamby, far too young to be taken so soon in such a horrible way,” they said.

In an update issued today (Wednesday), police said no-one had been charged in relation to Ms Dowling’s death yet.
