West Midlands Police has released the following statement.
“An investigation has been launched after we were contacted last night (3 Jan) to reports of shots being fired on Malvern Hill Road, Nechells shortly after 7pm.
“A scene is currently being held while specialist officers conduct a thorough examination and search for evidence. “There have been no reported injuries and no reports of any damage to property.
There are a number of police vehicles present. Forensic teams including a fingertip search team are at the scene and looking for clues. “Officers are conducting house to house and CCTV enquiries in the area.
A woman, who didn’t want to be named, told Birmingham mail how she ‘heard a lound bang’ and then saw a man holding a gun to a car in the street. She said: “There were a few boys and then a car. They were holding a gun to another car in the street.
“The car drove off and then came back and they just started hitting the car. It was a black car. It just sounded like a loud bang.”
One woman, who didn’t want to be named, said a shot was fired at her bedroom window.
She said: “I had a shot at my bedroom window, it must have been 15 years ago now.
“It was someone who targeted someone coming out of my house and wanted to rob them. It had nothing to do with me.
“There was nothing since. I was surprised to see police.
“I was just going to get my milk and bananas when I saw the police. “We live peaceful here. The only trouble is from the outside, we are a nice community.”
3 teens shot in one week
Violent shootings over the space of 48 hours have rocked Birmingham fuelling concerns around gun violence in the city.
Extensive cordons were in place in the city on Tuesday, December 28, and last night, December 30, following gunshots which injured three teenagers across two incidents.
Stats indicate, on average, three people were injured by guns every two months in the city.
Worryingly, a spate of male teenagers have been injured in recent months, including the 13-year-old boy who was shot in the back in Hockley – and the most recent incidents.
The first incident happened near Small Heath’s Arthur Street on Tuesday night. A 17-year-old boy suffered facial injuries after a gun was fired at a red Ford Fiesta, shortly before 10.30pm.
The teenager was taken to hospital with injuries not believed to be serious, police said. On the scene forensic officers in white suits examining a bullet hole in the car’s passenger side window.
West Midlands Police confirmed today (December 31) that no arrests have been made.
Around 48 hours later, two teenage men were dropped off at Winson Green’s City Hospital with gunshot wounds.
Officers called the incident “alarming” for hospital staff and patients who witnessed the men, in their late teens, arrive injured.
Aberdeen Street was closed for a short while as firearms officers tried to establish where shots had been fired. But detectives now believe the shots were fired elsewhere.
Both teenagers, whose injuries are not thought to be life threatening, were spoken to by cops in a bid to track the offenders. No arrests have been made as of today, and the force said City Hospital was not under attack – urging locals to remain calm. The location of the latest shooting remains unknown.
On the Small Heath shooting the force said: “We understand the community concerns this incident will cause and we’re carrying out CCTV, and other enquiries, to try to establish who was responsible. “We’re keen to hear from anyone with information who can assist our investigation into who did this and why.”
Following the shooting near City Hospital, a police spokesperson said: “Two men were brought to the hospital by car with gunshot wounds just before 10pm. “Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening and their condition is described as ‘walking wounded’.
“Our response and firearms officers were at the scene within minutes and Aberdeen Street was temporarily closed as we tried to establish where the shots had been fired.

A man was rushed to hospital after being shot while sitting in a car. The 23-year-old was in a vehicle on a car park near Walker Road in Bloxwich, Walsall.
He was attacked just after 8pm (December 27).
Police have sealed off the scene as forensics work to understand what happened. Officers will be patrolling the area in an effort to support the local community.
A statement from West Midlands Police said: “We’re investigating a shooting in Walsall just after 8pm last night (December 27). A 23-year-old man was shot while sat in a car.
“It happened in a car park to the rear of Walker Road, Bloxwich. He was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.
“We sealed off the scene for forensics and are working to understand more about what happened. Officers are carrying out extra patrols in the area to support the community.
