Kilo of Class A’s and cannabis found in Birkenhead raid

A 27-year-old man has been arrested and Class A drugs and weapons seized today, as part of an ongoing operation to tackle county lines and organised crime in Wirral.

The force’s county lines taskforce, as part of Project Medusa, arrested the 27-year-old during an operation on Tuesday 14 November.

Following a stop search of a man on Laird Street, Birkenhead, officers seized drugs, suspected to be cannabis, in his possession.

At a further search at an address in Birkenhead, officers seized multiple kilos of suspected cannabis and approximately one kilogram of cocaine and heroin. A suspected stolen electric bike and two offensive weapons were also discovered during the search.

The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (heroin and cocaine), possession with intent to supply Class B drugs (cannabis), theft of a motor vehicle and possession of an offensive weapon. He is still in police custody to be questioned.

Inspector Stephen Morris said: “This arrest is part of our proactive county lines work to ensure we take offenders supplying drugs off our streets.

“Officers seized a significant amount of drugs, a suspected stolen electric bike and two offensive weapons which could be used to cause serious harm.

“We are relentless in pursuing those involved in drug dealing and serious and organised criminality across Merseyside.

“Our Silence is Not an Option campaign urges anyone with any information about those involved in drugs, gangs and other serious crimes to contact Crimestoppers anonymously.  We can use this information to remove these criminals from our communities and keep Merseyside safe for generations to come.”

Since 2019, Project Medusa officers have closed 1,101 county lines; arrested 2,421 people for various offences including drug supply, firearms offences and money laundering; and identified 1,256 vulnerable adults and children who have been referred to safeguarding services.
