Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Small Heath have charged a man with murder. Abdulahi Abdi was arrested in London on Monday (13 Dec) in connection with the death of 18-year-old Yahya Sharif last Friday (10 Dec). The 19-year-old was last night charged with murder and appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court today where he was remanded into prison ahead of a crown court appearance on Monday (20 Dec).
And this morning we detained a second man at an address in Bordesley. Police said ” We believe he was part of a group that approached Yahya in Coventry Road at just before 5.30pm on Friday before he was fatally stabbed. Enquiries to identify and trace them all remain ongoing and we continue to appeal for anyone with information to contact us” Detective Inspector Hannah Whitehouse, from our homicide unit, said: “We’ve made some good progress but this remains a live and very much active investigation. “We’re continuing to establish exactly why this happened and we need anyone who can help us do this to come forward.”
